Childish behaviour ep 1: kevin low (2021)

It is an unsaid fact that Kevin Low aka @buk66 is Singapore's undisputed King of no ollies. So the slappy grind naturally works for him. “It’s lazy skateboarding” he says. “The kind that requires less energy”. Curb dancing hotspots include Marine Parade, Armenian Street and Gillman Barracks. His taste in skateboarding is also heavily influenced by legends such as Jeff Grosso, Jay Adams, Duane Peters and of course the original creators of the slappy grind- John Lucero and Lance Mountain. Over the years, “Ah Lau” has racked up an extensive board collection which is well into the hundreds, and a skate magazine and record collection which would make a hoarder blush, making his apartment in Marine Parade an informal skate museum of sorts. Who says skateboarding after 40 can’t be fun?

24 (2021) feature film

In the afterlife, a sound recordist lingers in the mortal realm while staying wedded to the profession. Armed with a recorder, a boom mic and a pair of headphones, he silently inserts himself in public and private affairs at uncustomary proximity and records even the slightest drop of water. His ‘presence’ at times incongruous and seemingly obtrusive but other times incapacitated by his spectrality, the recordist’s stolid visits to peculiar sightings, friends and family ponder the reverberations of his passing.

24 is a delicate study of how loss is felt and coped with. Its minimalist camerawork and crisp images shine the spotlight on human expressions and narratives, reaffirming TAN’s knack for crafting mundane stories that resonate.

36 ways to say good morning (2018)

Directed by Royston Tan, 36 Ways to Say Good Morning is a film that showcases the sights and sounds we hear and see daily in Singapore but often take for granted. These range from scenes in the humble homes to shops, from the public transport to the army. The film allows the audience to have a glimpse of the morning experience of Singaporeans from all walks of life, and it allows us to identify and relate to each scenario, and to celebrate the unspoken things that mark our Singapore identity.
